World Civilizations

This course provides an understanding of the major turning points in the shaping of the modern world, from the late eighteenth century to the present. The year begins with an introduction to current world issues and then continues with a focus on the expansion of the West and the growing interdependence of people and cultures throughout the world. Students will be asked to analyze economic and political developments, philosophies, language, literature, religion, the arts, and drama of different cultures. Knowledge of these concepts will enhance the student's ability to learn United States history, government, and economics during the 11th and 12th grades. This course is designed for students who read at or above grade level and may attend college. This course will meet entrance requirement for California baccalaureate institution.
